IMS Photo Contest 2014

kiku-contestEarth. Water. Air. Fire. The four elements shape the rock and design new and spectacular forms. Venture out, to the most remote places on earth, looking for particular snapshots of the mountain in play with one or more of the 4 elements. Thunderstorms, clouded sky, pristine springs, ice needles, ray of sunlight, lava flows and more… The 4 elements present themselves in endless forms and acts. photocratiThe Photocrati Fund offers a $5000 grant to a photographer to undertake an important humanitarian or environmental photography project. Our goal is to identify outstanding photographers and to provide support towards projects that will have a tangible and positive effect on the world.

The 2014 Photocrati Fund competition will be open from January 30, 2014- April 18, 2014. Following that time, the applications will be judged by our panel of distinguished reviewers. The grant winner will be announced in late June 2014. The grantee will then become a Photocrati Fellow for the calendar year from the announcement of his/her award until the announcement of the following year’s award.

Award decisions will be made by the Photocrati Fund Board, a prestigious panel that includes some of the world’s best-known environmental and cultural photographers. We are still confirming 2014 judges.

Eligibility: This grant is intended for both pro and emerging photographers. The grant is open to photographers over 21 years of age from any country worldwide, but applicants should have a proven ability to produce outstanding imagery and coherent photo essays, as well as the background necessary to carry out the proposed project.

Prize Value: $5000

Entry: Free Entry

Award Announcement
Winners of the grant will be notified after the judging, which should be completed in late June. The grant winners may share the news with others involved with the project, but we ask to keep news of the award confidential until the public announcement in late June.

Copyright and usage of your entry

By accepting the grant, the Grantee (the award winner) agrees, however, to give Photocrati a worldwide, non-exclusive right to display images included in the Grantee’s photo essay on the website. The Grantee also gives Photocrati the right to use the images from the photo essay on its website, in printed materials, or in galleries for the purpose of promoting the Photocrati Fund. (This means that if you win, you allow us to use a select set of your images in our publications and on our website to promote the grant.)

The imagery produced by the grantee (the award winner) may be licensed (and sold) to others by Grantee (the award winner), with the understanding and explicit agreement that the images may also be used by Photocrati in the manner mentioned above. (This means that if you win, you can sell your images however you like, but that you allow us to use a set of them — which you pick — to promote the grant. People often ask us if we plan to sell the winner’s images — NO! We are not in the business of selling other photographer’s images!).

HIPA Photography Awards 2014

HIPA-LogoThe 2014 HIPA photography awards is now accepting entries. Within this season’s Life in Colour theme there are four opportunities to showcase your eye for detail: these are:
LIFE IN COLOUR: The beauty of life is its colour. From fresh cooling blues, calming terracotta hues, deep rich reds to vibrant sunshiny yellows, colour has the ability to alter our psyche. They can bring a warming glow into a dull day and turn the corners of our mouths upwards. Colour speaks of the people, places, animals, plants and consumables that play a starring role in our everyday lives. Colour can add a splash of drama. It can be muted and emulate the calmness within. It has the ability to say so much more than just its one or two-worded name. Bright white can speak of freshly painted walls, teeth within a tanned face, or clean laundered bed sheets blowing in the breeze – each one depicts a very different story. But what does ‘Life in Colour’ say to you? That’s up for your creative mind to decide.

Eligibility: Worldwide

Entry: Free Entry

General / Entrants’ choice:  If you had to choose just one piece of work to reflect your passion for capturing life through a lens, which photograph would you submit? This category gives you the opportunity to enter a truly outstanding piece of photography that best exemplifies the excellence of the HIPA awards. It’s completely open, embraces all subject matters, removes boundaries and offers participants the chance to choose work that reflects their style as long as they adhere to the criteria and regulations of the Award.

Faces: People are a fascinating subject matter. Laughter lines of experience, smiling shining eyes that express a moment of gratitude, a mouth left wide open in awe – the human face can speak to the soul, address your mind and captivate your heart. We invite you to explore emotions, capture someone’s compelling story, and evoke the attitude, personality and essence of people who have inspired you to pick up your camera and record our great rich and varied lives.

In this category we encourage you to use black and white photography to maintain the authenticity of the beauty of life, and portray the finer details that make each one of us so special and unique. The use of black and white demands accomplished compositions and expert use of light: this is a true test of your ability.

Night Photography: Night time can bring still, starry calmness, the hustle and bustle of people leaving work and heading home, a blank canvas for celebratory fireworks, roaring campfires and the shining lights of traffic. It offers mysterious shadows to hide in. Speaks of secrets waiting to be discovered once light arrives. The dark veil of night provides a romantic light to capture a glimmer of beauty. There’s something truly magical about it. This category gives you the chance to play with your creativeness, reveal the beguiling charm of the night and offers you the perfect opportunity to shine.

You may submit up to one (1) Photo in each category of the Competition. You must provide one (1) title for each Photo.

2014 Women’s Initiative Grant – Alexia
