What To Enter

Be The Next HIP Photographer 2015

HIP-photographer-img-2This summer be part of our one-week photography contest and compete to become the next HIP Hotels Photographer.

10 promising photographers will be selected for each of the three chosen cities by our judges to undertake an amazing photo-shooting week, shooting 20 awesome hotels in either London, Paris or New York.

You’ll just have to think about the flight; we’ll take care of your stay (accommodation, food and local transport).

At the end of the photo shoot of all three cities, the most talented photographers will be selected by our judges to win a Photography Bootcamp with our founder, the award-winning photographer Herbert Ypma. And at the end of it, the most gifted ones may also have the chance to receive a job opportunity as a HIP Hotels Photographer.

The Fondation Alliance Française in Paris 2015


The Fondation Alliance Française in Paris is launching a new photography competition on the theme: “Climate: state of emergency”.

Candidates are asked to submit photographs illustrating issues related to climate and its real or perceived evolutions, as well as the induced effects on people’s lives. Their works may also depict public or private solutions which are implemented or imagined in their countries to fight the negative aspects of such evolutions.

First Prize: The winner of the “First Prize” will be offered a week in Paris to promote his/her work, in addition to the other rewards mentioned below.

Second prize: A collective exhibition in a Parisian art gallery and/or at the gallery of the Fondation Alliance Française will present a selection of the winner and finalists’ artworks. The successful photographs will be published in media outlets specializing in art and photography.

The competition is free and open to all non-professional and semi-professional photographers aged 18 and above.
Participants will need to submit two digital files formatted to TIFF (.tiff) or JPEG (.jpeg) with a resolution of 300 DPI (at least 30x40cm in 3000dpi – 3543×4724 pixels). The pictures should be original and exclusive (no reproduction allowed).

The following information should also be attached to the two photographs submitted by each participant:

Details of the camera used
– Aperture setting
– Shutter speed
– If film is used, details of the film (brand, ISO number)

The competition will take place at three levels:

–  Locally: each Alliance Française wishing to participate will forward an application form to the Fondation. The participating Alliance Française agrees to do a pre-selection of photos and to set up its own local jury for this occasion. The participating Alliance Française will then send the name of its laureate with the two photos to the Fondation.
Worldwide: the Fondation Alliance Française will select 40 works via its jury for a group exhibition.
Final Selection: the final prize-winner will be selected by the jury of the Fondation Alliance Française, composed of photography and culture professionals.
Closing date: May 15, 2015, at which point the first stage will be over.

eHarmony UK Love Captured Photo Contest 2015

Love Captured by eHarmony Photo CompetitionThere is just over a week left to enter’s Love Captured photography competition – which has seen the nation, for the second year running, capture and share what ‘love’ means to them.

The competition offers a prize of £1,000 to the photo that best captures the concept of love. Photographers were asked to showcase the thousands of little love stories taking place around us every day; with entrants capturing these moments using an array of photography; from abstracts to popular portraiture; from macro shots to breathtaking landscapes.

This year, in addition to the main prize, every entry wins the chance to feature in the UK’s first giant ‘love’ themed printed photo mosaic, to be displayed at a famous London location and created by renowned artist Helen Marshall – known for her Diamond Jubilee double-decker sized mosaic of the Queen.

Four experts in photography and love will judge the entries: top Psychologist and eHarmony relationship expert Dr. Linda Papadopoulos; editor of Practical Photography magazine Ben Hawkins; top freelance photographer and popular Instagramer Alex Douglas (who has shot for the likes of Budweiser and Proudlockstyle); and’s Managing Director Romain Bertrand. The entries will be judged on three main criteria – ‘creativity’, ‘quality’ and ‘charm’.

The basic requirement is that the recordings  have to  be made of natural habitats without disturbing the wildlife. On the photos only wild animals can be included, pictures taken of captive animals can not compete in the contest.
