Be part of a global competition that recognises and rewards the achievements of emerging talent and established names in wildlife photography. And make change happen.

The Adult Competition consists of ten (10) Single Image Categories and four (4) Special Award Categories:

  • Black and White
  • Natural Design
  • Special Award: Rising Star Portfolio Award

  • Special Award: Wildlife Photojournalist of the Year Award
  • Special Award: Wildlife Photographer of the Year Portfolio Award

There are three age groups categories as well as a special award for young entrants.

1. 10 Years and Under
2. 11-14 Years
3. 15-17 Years
4. NEW special interactive award: WILD-I – one submission per entrant of six still images and up to 150 words of text plus an optional 90 seconds of moving image

Prizes:

1. Wildlife Photographer of the Year: Best Single Image
10,000 GBP and trophy

2. Adult category winner  1,250 GBP and medal  trip to London to attend the awards ceremony

3. Special award: Wildlife Photographer of the Year Rising Star Portfolio Award winner  1,750 GBP and trophy  BBC Wildlife Magazine field assignment  trip to London to attend the awards ceremony

4. Special award: TimeLapse winner  2,000 GBP and trophy  trip to London to attend the awards ceremony

5. Special award: Wildlife Photojournalist of the Year Award winner  2,500 GBP and trophy  trip to London to attend the awards ceremony

6. Wildlife Photographer of the Year: Best Portfolio winner  7,500 GBP and trophy  trip to London to attend the awards ceremony
7. Adult category finalists – any position  certificate  invitation to the awards ceremony in London

Young competition awards
1. Young Wildlife Photographer of the Year  1,000 GBP and trophy  two-day field workshop with an experienced photographer to explore technical and creative development

2. Young category winner  500 GBP and medal  be considered for grand title Young Wildlife Photographer of the Year  trip to London for awards ceremony  year’s subscription to BBC Wildlife Magazine  one-day WPY Academy

3. Special interactive award winner: WILD-I  750 GBP and medal  trip to London to attend the awards ceremony  year’s subscription to BBC Wildlife Magazine  Natural History Museum field assignment  one-day WPY Academy

4. Young category finalist  certificate  trip to London to attend the awards ceremony  year’s subscription to BBC Wildlife Magazine  one-day WPY Academy

*One-day WPY Academy held in London during the week of the awards ceremony
**Two-day field workshop to be taken within one year of the awards ceremony

Copyright:

(1) Each entry must be the original work of the entrant and must not infringe the rights of any other party.

(2) The entrant must either be the sole owner of the copyright in the image(s) submitted or have secured the written permission of the copyright owner or any joint owners of copyright to enter the image(s) into the Competition.  A copy of any such written permission must be supplied to the Organisers on request.

Usage:

By entering the Competition, the entrant grants to the Organisers (and the right for the Organisers to sub-licence those rights, including to BBCW) a non-exclusive, irrevocable licence to reproduce, publish and communicate to the public by any means and exhibit their awarded image(s) and copies of their awarded image(s) in all media throughout the world in relation to the Competition and the Competition Exhibition and Touring Exhibition including (but not limited to) use as set out in Clause 7 and in the context of:

(i) judging the Competition;
(ii) display during the Awards, Competition Exhibition and Touring Exhibition;
(iii) publication in the Portfolio Magazine and/or similar;
(iv) publication in BBC Wildlife Magazine in relation to the Competition and/or Competition Exhibition and Touring Exhibition;
(v) publication on the Owners’ Websites including within interactive elements associated with the Competition and/or Competition Exhibition and Touring Exhibition available for viewing or download from the Owners’ Websites;
(vi) promotional materials (including social media) relating to the Competition and/or Competition Exhibition and Touring Exhibition.
