Two photos are selected for publication each month in National Geographic and 12 are published daily at ngm.com.
Once you upload a photo, you can create a My Shot page. Begin by uploading up to 100 of your favorite images.
Submission National Geographic my shot accept submissions beginning on the 15th of every month. NGS retains full editorial control over the selection of, and the decision not to select, any particular photograph for publication.
Limit You may submit only one (1) photo to Your Shot during any given submission period. Submission periods begin on the 15th of the month at midnight eastern time and end on the 14th of the following month at 11:59 p.m. eastern time.
Copyright: you retain all of your ownership rights in material you upload, comments you post, or other content you provide to the Site (“User Content”). By uploading User Content, you grant National Geographic (which includes its subsidiaries, affiliates, joint venturers, and licensees) the following rights: a royalty-free, worldwide, perpetual license to display, distribute, reproduce, and create derivatives of the User Content, in whole or in part, without further review or participation from you, in any medium now existing or subsequently developed, in editorial, commercial, promotional, and trade uses in connection with NG Products. National Geographic may license or sublicense, in whole or in part, to third parties rights in User Content as appropriate to distribute, market, or promote such NG Products. An NG Product is defined as “a product of National Geographic, a subsidiary, affiliate, joint venturer, or licensee of National Geographic, in any language, over which National Geographic has “Editorial Control.” For the purposes of this Agreement, “Editorial Control” means the right to review, consult regarding, formulate standards for, or to exercise a veto over the appearance, text, use, or promotion of the NG Product. You also agree that National Geographic may make User Content available to users of the Site who may display and redistribute it in the same way that National Geographic makes all other Content available.

Am I suppose to pay anything for this? and Can I win any prize on it?
It is for free. No pizes included but being seeing by over 30 million people world wide is a pretty big prize I think.If I have been selected to the “Daily Dozen” six times since I have been submiting since September 2007. I have been published twice, once in the magazine August 2010, and just recently in a National Geographic book on photography called “Complete Photography”.
To submit go to ngm.com/yourshot and use your best picture. If you are selected, it will takes two days to be published on the website. So if you submit Monday, it will appear online, if selected Wednesday. When you submit to Your Shot, a page will be created for you called My Shot where you can have your photos rated and commented on by other users. You can submit to My Shot up to 100 photos and if you get selected you get rewarded by receiving more room to upload.
If your picture if selected to the Your Shot Daily Dozen, you are in the running to be printed in the magazine. Two photos a month are selected. One by the editor and one by the readers via online voting. Sometimes they will select about 4 or 5 others in a set theme. Hope this helps. Here is my Flckr website.
