British Wildlife Photography Awards

To mark our tenth anniversary and help raise awareness about our coast; its incredible biodiversity and the threats it is facing we have expanded the Coast and Marine category to include British and Irish Coastlines within four separate categories; Wales, Scotland, England, and Northern Ireland & the Coast of Ireland.

Eligibility

The competition is open to anyone except those directly involved in the organisation and judging (including their families and relatives).

Still images, all categories

  • Young Photographer: up to 6 images, free
  • Bronze: 1 image, £10
  • Silver: up to 5 images, £20
  • Gold: up to 20 images, £30
  • Diamond: up to 40 images, £40

Video entry

  • Video entry: £10 per clip, up to 5 clips

Entrants for “Young People’s British Wildlife Photographer – up to 12 years” must be under 12 years old on the day the competition closes.

The British Wildlife Photography Awards were established in 2009. The key aims of the Awards are to:

Recognise the talents of photographers practicing in the UK, while at the same time highlight the great wealth and diversity of Britain’s natural history. Celebrate British wildlife, in all its beauty and diversity, through a collection of inspirational photographs. Showcase the very best of our nature photography to a wide audience and engage all ages with evocative and powerful imagery. Encourage discovery, exploration, conservation and enjoyment of our natural heritage. Raise awareness about British biodiversity, species and habitats 

Prizes

Each category winner (except British Seasons, Habitat and Behaviour) will receive a Canon EOS M50 with the EF-M 15-45mm and EF-M 55-200mm lens.

Wildlife in HD Video

The prize in the Wildlife in HD Video category is a Canon XA11 Full HD Camcorder.

There are two special awards to encourage participation by young people. These are free to enter.

Young British Wildlife Photographer (Up to 11): £300
Young British Wildlife Photographer (12–18): £500

Copyright and permissions

By submitting images to the BWPA, each entrant confirms and warrants that:

they are the sole author of each entry and that it is their original work;
they own the copyright and any other intellectual property rights of each image;
they have the permission of anyone pictured in the image (or, where the image shows any persons under 18, the consent of their parent/guardian) for the usage rights required by BWPA and will indemnify BWPA against any claims made by any third parties in respect of such infringement;
they have not licensed or disposed of any rights in the image that would conflict with uses to be made by BWPA; and
they have received any necessary permissions from the owner(s) of objects including buildings included in submitted images for the usage rights required by BWPA and will indemnify BWPA against any claims made by any third parties in respect of such infringement.

By entering the competition, you grant BWPA and its sponsors and supporters a non-exclusive, irrevocable licence to reproduce, enlarge, publish or exhibit, on any media, the images for any purpose directly connected with the competition. This may include, but is not limited to: inclusion in a book of winning and commended images; display at exhibitions; display on a web browser for judging purposes; on the BWPA website and on the websites of sponsors and supporters; on social media used by BWPA, its sponsors and supporters; for use in releases to be distributed to national, regional & specialist press and other media giving information about or promoting the competition.

Entrants agree that the organisers can sub-license images to the media for reproduction in connection with the competition and exhibition only.
BWPA will make every reasonable effort to ensure that name credits are given to any photograph published in any medium.
Free usage of any photograph will not be permitted by BWPA, or any of its partners or sponsors outside of the scope of the competition and exhibition.
There is no plan envisaged by BWPA, or any of its partners or sponsors, to create a general commercial library of the images entered into this competition.
Entrants retain the copyright to images submitted.
Images used on merchandise commissioned by the organisers will be discussed individually with the photographer concerned and a separate agreement made.

• In the event any such consent either has not been obtained and/or are not provided to the Organiser, the Organiser has the absolute right to remove the entry. If there is an artistic
reason for including material of this sort, please make this clear in the details of how the work was created.

Usage of your Images

By entering the competition, entrants do not transfer or surrender the copyright or other intellectual property rights in their work but if selected for the longlist or named a finalist or winner, artists may be asked to grant royalty-free worldwide rights to the Organiser, to reproduce, distribute, display reproductions, whether in whole or part, in any media now or hereafter known, including, but not limited to: display at exhibitions; on the website; publication of a book or catalogue featuring select entries in the competition; display in selected public locations; publication in magazines or online publications highlighting finalists, longlisted artists or winners of the competition and unrestricted rights to use all statements made in connection with the competition and in a way that the Organiser considers suitable, without the incidence of any liability for the Organiser.

Longlisted, finalists and winners may also be asked an authorised party delegated so by the Organiser to reproduce, distribute, display, and create derivative works of of the qualifying work in connection with the competition, associated events and shows as well as promotion of the competition, in any media now or hereafter known.

Sponsors of the Photomonitor Student Award and BCS Artificial Intelligence Award have the right to use the winning, finalist and longlist works in these categories and each artists’ name, likeness, and/or voice in any publicity or advertising relating to the Contest or future promotions. In all cases, these images will be clearly credited.

Entrants agree that personal data, especially name and address, may be processed, shared, and otherwise used for the purposes and within the context of the competition and any other purposes outlined in these Terms and Conditions. International Photography Competition 2019

Photographers from all over the world are invited to submit their work. All styles and levels of experience are welcome. Winners will be selected by a jury and announced on May 4. The winning selections will be printed and framed by FMoPA and exhibited in the Community Gallery from June 1-July 23. There will be a formal opening reception from 5-7 p.m. June 28 at the museum.

Contest Prizes:

Nikon Small World Competition 2019

The Nikon International Small World Competition first began in 1975 as a means to recognize and applaud the efforts of those involved with photography through the light microscope. Since then, Small World has become a leading showcase for photomicrographers from the widest array of scientific disciplines.

Eligibility

Anyone over the age of 18 is eligible, with the exception of employees of Nikon, their families, the contest judges, and individuals engaged in the manufacture or sale of microscopes, related accessories or photographic equipment.

A photomicrograph is a technical document that can be of great significance to science or industry. But a good photomicrograph is also an image whose structure, color, composition, and content is an object of beauty, open to several levels of comprehension and appreciation.

The Nikon Small World Competition is open to anyone with an interest in photography through the microscope. Truly international in scope, entries have been received from the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia, Latin America, Asia, and Africa. Winners have included both professionals and hobbyists.

The subject matter is unrestricted and any type of light microscopy technique is acceptable, including phase contrast, polarized light, fluorescence, interference contrast, darkfield, confocal, deconvolution, and mixed techniques. Entries submitted to Nikon are then judged by an independent panel of experts who are recognized authorities in the area of photomicrography and photography. These entries are judged on the basis of originality, informational content, technical proficiency and visual impact.
